NEW LAB BUILDING Valley Labs has purchased a new building in downtown Yakima! We opened our doors at the new facility on September 4, 2007. It was an old law office in a park-like setting with over 4000 square feet of lab space. With the increased space we can now offer expanded services in-house and provide a faster turn-around-time. In Yakima County there is a flat fee of $30 for any site within a 30-mile radius of the lab. Our staff includes a certified Water Distribution Manager (WDM) and Cross-Connection Specialist (CCS). Instructions for Proper Bacteria Sampling:Obtain a pre-sealed, sterile 120mL bottle from Valley Lab. Just stop by and ask for a coliform bacteria sample bottle. Take the bottle back to your house and find a faucet with a separate hot and cold handle. Remove all filters, strainers or aerators. Run the water for at least 2 minutes to flush water from the system so you are getting water fresh from the well. Clean the outside and inside of the faucet with a bleach solution by spraying or immersing the faucet in a cupful of bleach for 30 seconds. Turn the cold water back on and let it run for about 5 minutes to wash off the bleach and get water from the well. Fill out the information slip as completely as possible making sure to give mailing information, phone number, address sampled and faucet used. Reduce the flow to a small stream, open the bottle without touching the inside of the bottle or lid, fill the bottle to just above the 100mL fill line without overflowing and screw the lid back on. Return the bottle to Valley Lab within 30 hours of sampling and keep it cool after sampling in a Ziploc bag with ice until delivery to Valley Environmental Laboratory. Valley Lab will sample anywhere in Yakima County, if you want or need an independent party to get a proper sample. Well Treatment Procedures:Valley Lab offers full service well cleaning if your well has a problem with bacterial contamination. Our well treatment includes on-site visit to the well, accessing the well, treatment of the well water with special chemicals designed to eliminate all (99.999%) bacteria and most viruses, resealing of the wellhead, distribution of the chemicals throughout the system, allowing the chemicals to have a contact time of at least 12 hours, returning the next day to flush the entire system and re-sampling and testing. This professional service is only $120, is guaranteed to be the most effective treatment possible and can usually be performed within the same day we're contacted.
